I have taken photos for more years than I care to remember. I even considered doing a photography degree but at the time it required a chemistry qualification. Physics I could do but sadly not chemistry!

Other priorities in life overshadowed taking photos, but in recent years I reignited my passion for photography and joined Peebles Camera Club. I still don’t have much spare time, so many of my photos are taken on dog walks around Peebles. They’re a long way from the best but I can honestly say that the friendship and support that I’ve received through the club has helped me to up my game.

I’ve been fiddling with cameras and taking pictures since my school days. First with film then with digital. A keen climber and sailor a lot of my photography is of the wild areas of Scotland. I just enjoy taking pictures and am not tied to any particular genre, I’ve tried my hand shooting most topics. I joined PCC to meet and mix with fellow enthusiasts and took on the role of secretary in Autumn 2020.

Throughout my life I have spent most of my spare time outdoors so I came into photography via walking and rock climbing. In more recent years, I did a foundation course at a local college and joined the local Camera Club. This opened my eyes to other areas of photography so that I’m now happy to have a go at wildlife (birds, animals, insects) as well as mountain landscapes. Really, anything that gets me outdoors is good!

My first camera was a 35mm bought from the local chemist in 1960 and I joined my first camera club the following year. Since then I moved onto Pentax SLRs, back to compacts and then entered the digital age 15 years ago with an entry level Canon DSLR.   I have now moved onto full frame with a range of lenses which gives me scope to enjoy photography. I like to think my choice of subjects is quite wide but I do enjoy making night, wildlife and landscape photographs.
