Summer Break

After a great season, we’re currently taking a break until we restart in September. We’re busy working on the programme for the new season which will include guest speakers, practical evenings and competitions. The new programme will appear here towards the end of the summer.

Meetings start again on Wednesday 16th September.

Who are we?

We’re a friendly group of people who enjoy taking photographs and getting together in a relaxed informal environment.

What do we do?

Each season we offer smartphone and camera users alike a programme of expert talks, practical sessions, talks by members, and for those interested the opportunity to take part in competitions.

Why do we do it?

We just love taking photos whether of something beautiful in the natural world, special moments with family and friends, memorable scenery, or anything that appeals to us. Being a club member helps us learn how to make our photos the best they can be through greater technical knowledge and developing a creative eye.

Why should I join?

The club’s varied programme aims to inspire, educate and inform and is for everyone who has ever looked at a photo they have taken and wished that it had turned out better.

The club also has privileged access to the best spots to take photos of community events like the Beltane and weekly sports fixtures.

Is it expensive to join?

We don’t think so! The cost of £3.00 per session is less than the cost of a coffee in a high-street cafe and includes tea/coffee and biscuits! We charge a single fee to cover all the season’s meetings at the start of the season.

Do I need an expensive camera?

Definitely not. Club activities are enjoyable and relevant whether you use a smartphone for all your photography (which is now most people) or are an enthusiastic user of the latest camera technology.

The Story Behind The Photo

I had made a slight detour on my way to work in Bonnyrigg in order to test my recently-acquired Fujifilm xPro2 and 56mm lens and found this scene not far along the B6372, about ten minutes before sunrise.
It’s a personal favourite because  1) I’m a sucker for sunrises and sunsets and 2) as an image it is – like the gear I was trying out – clean and simple.
Taking some time out on the way to work also felt liberating … like the day belonged to me, rather than me belonging to my job.
Not long after, I sold twenty years’ worth of Nikon bodies and lenses on eBay and started contemplating how much longer I wanted to be working (in the event, six more years).
