Open Competition 3
19th April 2025
We held our third and final competition on 16th April. As usual, it was an Open competition for both digital images and prints. The judge was Dave Spinks who provided positive and enthusiastic comments.
It was great to see that nearly every member entered the digital category whilst nearly half the members entered the print category. A number of images in both the digital and print categories were awarded the maximum 20 points. These are shown below (click on them to see the full-size image). All entries can be viewed on the Galleries page.
Our next meeting is a photo walk on 7th May. We’re planning to go to one of the Borders Forest Trust sites at Carrifran or Gamehope. More details nearer the time.
Who are we?
We’re a friendly group of people who enjoy taking photographs and getting together in a relaxed informal environment.
What do we do?
Each season we offer smartphone and camera users alike a programme of expert talks, practical sessions, talks by members, and for those interested the opportunity to take part in competitions.
Why do we do it?
We just love taking photos whether of something beautiful in the natural world, special moments with family and friends, memorable scenery, or anything that appeals to us. Being a club member helps us learn how to make our photos the best they can be through greater technical knowledge and developing a creative eye.
Why should I join?
The club’s varied programme aims to inspire, educate and inform and is for everyone who has ever looked at a photo they have taken and wished that it had turned out better.
The club also has privileged access to the best spots to take photos of community events like the Beltane and weekly sports fixtures.
Is it expensive to join?
We don’t think so! The cost of £3.00 per session is less than the cost of a coffee in a high-street cafe and includes tea/coffee and biscuits! We charge a single fee to cover all the season’s meetings at the start of the season.
Do I need an expensive camera?
Definitely not. Club activities are enjoyable and relevant whether you use a smartphone for all your photography (which is now most people) or are an enthusiastic user of the latest camera technology.
